The foundation was laid down way back in 1996 in the form of small gatherings of women who were then trained in basic tailoring skills to enable them to earn a living. Since then, every year more women came to learn and it transformed into a vocational centre delivering high quality vocational training in Tailoring.
The women who train under our vocational training courses come from diverse backgrounds. Few of them would already be working at some place earning a meagre, unsatisfactory salary; others would be living in an alarmingly below the poverty line and struggling to make ends meet. Often, their upbringing is not ethically sound and hence they require a lot of moral conditioning to make them understand the gap between ethical and unethical ways of earning money.
In the Muslim community, the young girls are socially confined. They are not allowed to express or have any kind of aspirations. This leads to their early marriages and health related issues, child and maternal mortality, large families, etc. It also promotes social evils like dowry, polygamy and domestic violence. Moreover, socially it is very difficult to go out of the house and be an actively earning member.
In a 3 month period, we try to deliver value systems along with sound education in the respective vocational courses for these students so that they can step forward towards a better future. At the end of the training, we organize a placement session for them to facilitate their placements in good companies. Over time, our vocational training centre has manifested into a multidisciplinary skill development centre.
